Set up Rommayo on Android, Desktop & Steam Deck

Bring your existing RomM server and a device that can reach it. Rommayo puts your collection within reach through native Android library screens and an Electron desktop app.

Steam Deck and one-line desktop setup

For Gaming Mode, controller setup and illustrated instructions, follow the Steam Deck guide. For macOS or Linux desktop, this command selects your platform and verifies the packaged installer:

curl -fsSL https://rommayo.quentinmayo.com/install.sh | bash

Windows users can install the EXE from Downloads. You do not need npm or a development server to use packaged apps.

1. Start with a reachable RomM server

Rommayo is a companion to RomM. You need your own running server and a RomM account. Follow the official RomM quick-start guide if you have not set up your library yet.

Use the same server URL you open in your browser. A private LAN address needs the same network or a suitable VPN. Include http:// explicitly for an unencrypted LAN server; addresses without a scheme use HTTPS. HTTPS is recommended, particularly for browser player features that require a secure context.

2. Choose the Android APK or desktop app

Mac apps are ad-hoc signed and not notarized; Windows installers are unsigned. Rommayo is a public alpha. Installation, Desktop Mode login/core boot and Gaming Mode app launch have been tested on a physical Steam Deck; gameplay and physical controls remain under validation. Installation details and limitations are maintained in the compatibility matrix and Steam Deck guide.

3. Connect with your existing RomM account

  1. Enter your server URL or IP address, RomM username and password.
  2. Read the server notice and connect. Choose Remember login to keep the session cookie across app restarts, or uncheck it for a temporary session. Rommayo never saves your password.
  3. Browse your library, search for a game or open recently played games. Use a recent server to resume its saved session.

Use Settings → Log out on Android or the desktop toolbar’s Log out button to end this device’s session. Local game saves and exported files are preserved. There is no separate Rommayo account. For SSO or an expired session, use RomM’s own sign-in page. Full RomM provides access to upstream collections, saves, metadata, settings and administration according to your server permissions.

4. Configure handheld and controller navigation

Android uses native sign-in, cover grids, search, filters, recents, details and settings. The navigation moves between a bottom bar in portrait and a side rail in landscape. Settings include A/B swap, stick dead zone, compact cards, orientation and a controller check screen.

D-pad, stick, A/B and shoulder actions support navigating native menus. Controller mappings for those menus do not intercept gameplay inputs. RomM’s browser players handle emulation in a WebView; desktop uses Electron with the full RomM interface.

Injected Android button checks have passed. Physical Xbox controllers and retro Android handhelds still need device testing. See the Android handheld guide for controls and diagnostics.

Save before leaving a player

Player support, cores, BIOS requirements and save behavior come from your RomM server and its emulators. Save your progress before returning to the native library or switching servers. Compatibility varies by device, browser engine and server configuration.

Rommayo includes no games, BIOS files or keys and provides no third-party ROM download support. Use only content you are authorized to access. Downloads and use are at your own risk. Rommayo is independent of RomM and Valve.

Fuel the next save point.

I need help affording my AI token usage :) If Rommayo makes your setup a little more fun, buy the developers a coffee. Always optional. Always appreciated.
